Anniversary Year 2026 – five special anniversaries

2026 is a special year for the Carl and Marisa Hahn-Foundation: no fewer than five anniversaries honour the people, ideas and initiatives that have shaped our foundation’s work and continue to have an impact to this day. On 1 July 2026, we will mark four special milestones: the 100th birthday of our founder, Carl H. Hahn; the 20th anniversary of the Carl and Marisa Hahn-Foundation; the 10th anniversary of the Carl Hahn-Scholarship; and the 5th anniversary of “My School Goes Green”. In addition, this anniversary year marks the 100th birthday of Marisa Hahn.

We will be marking each of these anniversaries at various events throughout the year. On this page, we are compiling photos, videos and highlights from events and special moments during this anniversary year.

The 100th birthday of Carl H. Hahn

In Wolfsburg, a commemorative service at St Bernward’s Church and exhibitions at the Art Museum and the Autostadt paid tribute to his work and his influence on the economy, culture and society. A particularly memorable moment was the renaming of the former Berlin Bridge as the Carl Hahn Bridge. To mark the ceremonial naming, the “Ultima Edición” Beetle club drove their cars across the bridge, thereby sending a visible message about Carl H. Hahn’s automotive legacy.

His home town of Chemnitz also honoured its honorary citizen with a varied programme of anniversary celebrations. To mark his family’s entry into the town’s Golden Book at the town hall, the “Ferdinand’s Erben” Beetle club also gathered outside the town hall with its vintage cars. Other highlights of the programme included an exhibition and a gala concert at St Peter’s Church, as well as the grand opening of the Carl-Horst-Hahn Garden and the unveiling of a mural at the Volkswagen factory.
