Little Woodland – 100 Roots for the Future
A living tribute to Carl and Marisa Hahn and a special place of learning for future generations.
On 22 and 23 October 2026, the historic Rothehof estate in Wolfsburg’s Rabenberg district became a place where the past meets the future. With a history dating back to the Middle Ages, this traditional site entered a new chapter with the project “Little Woodland – 100 Roots for the Future”. Here, the Carl und Marisa Hahn-Stiftung has created a place where nature, education and community engagement come together.
The project was inspired by the 100th birthdays of Carl and Marisa Hahn. At a place the family called home for many years, the aim was to create something that would grow for generations to come, honouring their deep connection to Wolfsburg and their commitment to education and social responsibility.
The idea: 100 children and young people plant 100 trees and follow their growth.
Each tree represents not only a contribution to nature but also the opportunity to make a difference. Together with their families, the children and young people were able to plant their own trees, become tree sponsors and discover what a young forest needs to thrive.
The NaturErkundungsSTation NEST provides ongoing environmental education support for Little Woodland, from the initial planting activities to its long-term development as a place of learning. The City of Wolfsburg’s Department of Green Spaces and the Wolfsburg City Forester also supported the planting activities with their expertise and hands-on assistance. Together with the Carl und Marisa Hahn-Stiftung, everyone involved has laid the foundation for a special place dedicated to nature and environmental education.
Little Woodland is much more than a one-time tree-planting event. The young tree sponsors can follow the growth of their trees over many years, observe how they develop and learn about the importance of caring for and protecting our natural environment.
In the years to come, the woodland will continue to invite children, families and school groups to explore nature through all their senses and develop a greater awareness of sustainability and climate protection. The NaturErkundungsSTation NEST will provide valuable support through its wide range of educational activities.
With Little Woodland, the Carl und Marisa Hahn-Stiftung combines the memory of its founders with a sustainable educational project that encourages young people to discover and protect nature.
